Puppy Class
Puppy Communication Sessions
(8 weeks old – 5 months old)
Imprinting basic obedience skills, socialisation and manners.
|
The most important time of their lives!
|
This is a multi - faceted class that incorporates the beginner levels of "Lifestyle Canine Communication System" with socialisation exercises. We work on any problems that you may be having with the pup, from toilet training to separation anxiety. Puppy owners are educated in handling, health, grooming and teaching the dog manners, in the home environment. The class is structured to be a balanced mix of vital canine behavioural information, hands-on training and FUN!
Your professional trainers encourage interaction and play between the pups in the class and this is carefully supervised to avoid any bullying or aggression problems. This allows the pups to learn social skills, correct play behaviour and body language. Without these life skills the dog may become nervous and antisocial. The obedience is taught using positive motivation, random repetition and extensive use of the release command (reward). All handlers are taught to understand and use these techniques effectively.

Controlled play time helps puppies to
learn vital interaction skills with dogs and people. It's great fun too!

The pups are trained using collar and lead until they are between 4 and 5 months of age and then they are correctly fitted for a halter if it is required. The owners are then educated in the correct usage of this equipment before they are moved up to the next level of obedience.
Socialisation and distraction training is a critical part of the pups education, without which the dog is very likely to become nervous, antisocial and find it difficult to cope in new surroundings. We cover a broad range of stimuli within the class and educate the owner on the importance of this in the pup's upbringing. Each class incorporates a realistic socialisation topic ranging from grooming, vet examinations, meeting strangers, loud noises and puppy playtime - just to name a few.
Our obedience expands beyond the ordinary sit, recall, etc. We teach the owner to instil manners into the pup and incorporate its obedience into its day-to-day lifestyle. The regular mini lecture component of each class is designed to teach owners how to modify any of their pup's undesirable behaviours and encourages the use of positive strategies rather than relying on out-dated and ineffective forceful measures. Of course, there is always time set-aside after class for more individual help with your pup/s if it is required. Your trainers will be happy to help and advise you on any of your puppy requirements.

Some of the mini lecture topics are:
- Biting & Mouthing
- Stop jumping up on people
- Wait at the door for the enter command instead of just rushing in
- Canine aggression & fear based problems
- Barking problems
- To accept the lead and collar without stress
- To be able to be tied away from the owner and wait quietly until their return
- Separation problems
All pups are welcome and we work the dog to its own individual level within the class. This means that there are many different ages, breeds and ability levels working at the same time. This enables the owners to see what to work towards and provides the pups with a broad range of playmates and stimuli. The sooner the training begins the better for your pup's overall development.
